Windows XP support
So, official support for Windows XP will run out soon. Everybody who continues to use it, is (in my humble opinion) acting irresponsibly.
You may say "It's all good, my workstation is not connected to the internet".
True.... but! Afterall, you will be installing software on the machine. No? You will not install new software? Ok, but, what about updates to the software that is already installed? I am pretty sure you will install those (and if you say "NO" now, you should really re-think your position towards software in general - by the way, are you using the latest CAESES version?). So that is a potential entry for malicious software that may compromise your computer and your whole company network.
So, you are only downloading those updates from the "official" site of the vendor? Right... BUT! Never heard of websites being hacked? Even the biggest players in the industry were already successfully targeted.
What about "physical hacking"? Can you guarantee to 100.1% that noone but you ever (ever, ever, ever) has access to the computer you are using? There is no way to guarantee that! So the USB (and Firewire and Network) ports of your computer are potential entry points for attackers.
What you really want is a system that is up-to-date with the latest security updates. Of course, there is no 100% security. Security holes that weren't found yet, cannot be fixed (same goes, of course, for bugs in our software, but that's a different story).
For now, we have decided to continue to support Windows XP, but I can already announce that this support is only temporary. For one, we do not want you to live dangerously by using that operating system. For two, continuing to support Win XP limits us to not use some cool features that cannot be used with Win XP. In turn, this means we are limited in creating new features and more stability for you!
tl;dr; Please do not continue to use Windows XP!
