Splitting a Blade at Specific Chord Length

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We've repeatedly had the request how to split a blade into separate surfaces at a certain chord length, e.g. for preparing ice class calculations.

I have attached a very basic example that splits the blade surface at a chord length of 20%. It is important to keep the parameterization of the polycurve that is used for blade generation. For this, I recommend the "skinning" option (available for CAESES versions > 4.x), or alternatively the "cubic" option. In addition, the density option for blades should probably be deactivated as well. With keeping the curve parameterization, we know where exactly to split the surface using image surfaces. For the polycurve, the single curves start at t_i = i * 1/N, where N is the number of input curves (i=0,1...n-1).

Cheers

Joerg
