Hi folks,

You may noticed that CAESES provides an easy to use Domain Box Feature for CFD preprocessing which you can find in the Features Tab. This domain can be used for solid intersection with your parametric model. Also you can control dimensions, resolution and export colors.

Since I am busy with CFD propeller simulations I thought it might be a good idea to provide a similar feature which creates a domain box with a cylindrical shape. So, please find attached the feature definition.

First of all, this feature allows you to create a Solid cylinder with it's center in [0,0,0]. You can control the axis direction and the trimesh resolution. In addition you can give a reference length (supposed to be the propeller diameter) and depending on that value you can control the dimensions in upstream, downstream and radial direction. Finally you can set colors for Inlet, Outlet and the Wall. As a second option you can also directly join your parametric propeller model. The only requirement is that the shaft of the propeller intersects the Outlet or the Inlet. As a last option you can add a rotational domain inside the outer domain. For this smaller domain you can also control dimensions and colors. In order to define which solid output should be exported I tried to give meaningful names (not as easy as it seems   ) as well as the feature controls the visibilty of the ouput objects. So, you just have to select the desired output and go to File > Export > STL (...). Another option for export would be to use the console (see figure below).

To give you an example I used the propeller model which was posted a while ago here in our Forum: Propeller Forum Post.

I imported the feature definition by going to Features > New Definition and in that new feature going to the General Tab > Reload. After setting up the dimensions I joined the propeller and added the rotational domain.

Please tell me what you think and if it works as expected!

Cheers
