Mr. Maurizio Rosson 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2014 Hi, I need a little help. I extracted the .tar archive in /opt and I can run the software entering the folder /opt/CAESES-FFW and run the file CAESES-FFW (the bash script).I'd like to lock the app to the launcher, so I created a .desktop file [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Name=CAESES-FFW Comment=comment Path=/opt/CAESES-FFW Exec=/opt/CAESES-FFW/CAESES-FFW Icon=/opt/CAESES-FFW/CAESES-FFW.ico Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=Science; and saved in /usr/share/applications. Then I made it executable and locked to the launcher, but when I click the icon nothing happens. What's wrong with it? Have I to set any environment variable? Thanks for your attention and your help. Mr. Konrad Lorentz 2 Report post Posted December 2, 2014 Dear Maurizio, In folder CAESES-FFW_3.X.X_Linux.x86_64/tools/gnomeHelper/we already have a script to create a Desktop Launcher. Double-Click on it and an icon should be created. Improvements are welcome, if you have a better way, please inform us. RegardsKonrad
Mr. Maurizio Rosson 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2014 Thanks for your help, Konrad. Now it works. I share here my experience, it could helps other newbies like me (not so experienced with root privileges and other linux stuff).- download the .tar archive and extract in home folder- double click on CAESES-FFW_3.X.X_Linux.x86_64/tools/gnomeHelper/registerDesktopIcon and a CAESES-FFW launcher appears on the desktop- move the launcher to ~/.local/share/applications and launch CAESES-FFW with a double click- after the registration step, lock the sofware on the Unity launcher
