hydrostatic calculations with trimesh

Recommended Posts

I have used the Hydrostatic tool with closed trimeshes. The sections displayed below the hull look broken like in the attached example. If I use an open trimesh, the sections look alright. In both cases the calculated values are the same but I am not sure what the broken sections want to tell me. In my current project I only got .stl-files with closed trimeshes of hulls so i can not use the surfaces to do the calculations.

Hi Johannes,

In your example closed trimesh is not really closed, the range for the extrusion needs to be increased and secondly, the trimesh is not watertight in the bow. This does not effect your problem though. if a trimes is closed, the cutting algorithm does not have a natural starting point, that is why the offsets start arbitrarily.

Solution: You can cut the trimesh 1) at a certain height and then 2) remove the points on the centerplane.

Have fun ...
